My father, who has never left Japan, soaks his baguette (we call it in Japan France pan) in his hot chocolate. Our family there thinks it rather uncooth. He insists that it makes the bread softer and more delicious but we consider it bad manners.
One day I was invited by one of my French friends to breakfast. I found him in the kitchen soaking a baguette with butter and jam. I saw the butter and jam floating in his coffee! The same uncooth gesture done by an elegant French person! I rethought my opinion. Don’t be swayed too much by what others think. If you enjoy something, even if it seems strange, I’m sure somewhere, on the other side of the world, there is someone enjoying the same thing too.
