I remember when I was a student at the University of Leipzig, I would see German students eating raw carrots during the lectures. My reaction at that time was one of complete surprise. “How can they can eat a carrot raw like that?” In Japan it would be a pretty rare sight indeed. A few years later … I found myself eating a raw carrot just like the German students did. I must now admit that raw carrots are rather tasty and moreover their taste in Germany is somewhat different from the Japanese carrots. German ones are sweeter. Since then I have enjoyed plenty more raw carrots. Sometimes you see the strange behaviour of a different nationality, but try it, you might like it!
